2024– how things are….

A New year is something we all look forward to. As a rule… this year has so many out of our control moving parts, everyone is looking at the best way to navigate through these tricky times.

Every week we see on TV or hear on the radio or other forms of media that shops are closing…restaurants are shutting…government departments are restructuring…jobs are getting tight…..budgets even tighter.

These are the times when small local businesses need your help most.….the alternative being..if we dont…all that will be left will be the larger companies where profit comes before all else. Not the outcome any community wants.

Support them with reviews on their social media pages, your presence once a week - more if you can manage it….pay with cash where you can. The larger financial institutions would have you believe that their fees are part of their service to you..their loyal customers. Hmmm think about that. Carefully. I understand all businesses need to make a profit to survive but for smaller businesses our margins are not huge so it may be that some businesses might shorten their hours…reduce staff…cut their advertising…..all measures that really can help keep businesses afloat.

Having lived through three recessions myself and seen the consequences I know that as a small nation we will bounce back but it all takes time. Lets hope our government & the reserve bank come to the party and approach getting our country back on track in a practical way.

Meanwhile….support local where you can…pay cash and do all you can to ensure you can spend your cash where you want to and how you want to.
