LOCKDOWN…AGAIN!
Talk about feeling like Groundhog Day!
Like thousands of other New Zealanders, I listen to the radio talkback shows and the News each day/night to try and make sense of what we are being told. We have to trust that the experts are doing their best and that our Government is also making the right decisions on our behalf, as a country.
Being back in lockdown is not where we want to be, but we are being told that it is needed - so here we are.
Hubby & I made a list of things we needed to do over the next few months and are working our way through it. I realise “lists” aren’t for everyone but here’s where it IS of benefit to you.
Keeping busy and getting even small jobs done is great for our sense of well being …this is SO important during lockdown when we haven’t got the freedom to get together with our friends or ring up a contractor to come and fix things.
DIY is great IF you’re a handyman. I am not. BUT I can clean and tidy and work my way through linen cupboards, wardrobes and boxes of stuff in storage. Last time we were in lockdown I tidied the house and decluttered within an inch of its life. I was doing boot loads of trips to various charity shops and managed to rehome many boxes of excess “stuff”. I started in the bathroom a few days ago..oh dear! I have a large carry bag of excess skin cleaners, lotions, hand creams, soaps, travel sets of shampoos and many half used lipsticks and cosmetics that have done their dash. I sat looking at that bag and found myself thinking “ Eeek how wasteful am I?!”. Not good.
From that I have made a deal with myself to just buy what I need and not try too many other products that just aren’t going to do the job…as much as they promise to. There’s only so much a product can do and they can’t do miracles. Brushes also needed a good soak and clean. Makeup brushes, blusher brushes, eye shadow brushes..all of them! The water was brown after just one round! Warm soapy water is the way to go and then paper towels to sit them all on to dry in the sun.
If you set yourself just one job a day while in lockdown you might just be amazed at how clean & tidy your space gets. Make this downtime count. Try and improve your space in some way. If you have kids..get them involved in decluttering their rooms and make it fun. If
this awful bug has you laid up..rest, hydrate and sit in the sun and doze if you can. Breath…..and relax. Let your body heal and absorb the light and warmth. It’s ok...you won’t be arrested!
Finally….go through your wardrobe and start packing away all your winter items, by the time we come out of this lockdown, spring will be here. Cheer yourself up with colourful items in your spring wardrobe. Unpack any items in storage and get them washed and ironed and hung up – ready for freedom!
All the items that you no longer fit (and yes..be realistic here) move them on! As soon as level 3 is here I will be instore going through the racks and receiving the non- contact bags of Spring clothing that I know will be coming in like an avalanche…so make a start and see how much you can achieve.
Stay safe and see you instore soon. C x
